Owl Diaper Cake

A friend is having her baby shower and I decided to get a little creative on the gift.

After reading up a few craft blogs and youtude videos on diaper cake, it looks fairly easy to create my own.

Instead of using rubber bands, I cut strips from a clear plastic bag and roll round the diaper & tape on the strips. It's secure and it dun left a mark that rubber band does when you tie it too tight.

So here's what I created!

I can't remember where I got this owl tutorial from but I love making them.

I created some really cute bows that look awesome on the cake as well.

And on the hair!

Yes those are hair clips as well.

I found some photos I took while rolling the diapers.

Step 1: Roll the diaper (What else right)

Step 2: Roll up like a swiss roll

Step 3: Tied a strip of plastic strip around it.Why plastic strip instead of rubber band?

Cause it will not leave a mark on the diaper when you tied it too tightly.

Step 4: Ta Da! All done

Self-Stamped Wrapping Paper

Christmas is round the corner and I know it can be very expensive to get those fancy wrapping paper.

Here's a good way to save a few bucks.

What you need:

- Brown Paper or any color paper you have at home.

- Ink Pad (I am using Versafine in Onyx Black)

- Stamp (Any design. However bigger stamp preferred as it save time covering the paper)

The process is really simple.

It took me less than 5 min to get it done.

Arrange the stamp anyway you want.

Easy Carbonara

I made this for a friend's birthday last year and now it's the only recipe I used for Carbonara.
Easy and Oh-So-Yummy.

Ingredients

1 lb spaghetti
¼ cup heavy cream
4 egg yolks
½ lb bacon, cut into ½-inch dice
1 tsp extra virgin olive oil
2 Tbsp chopped parsley
Salt and black pepper, to taste
¾ cup freshly grated pecorino-romano cheese (parmesan may be substituted)

Preparation:

- Fill a large soup pot with cold water and add a handful of salt. Stir and taste; it should taste like seawater. Cover the pot and heat the water until it boils.

- Add the diced bacon to a cold sauté pan and cook slowly over a low heat for 10 to 15 minutes or until crisp. Remove bacon from pan and drain on paper towels.

- Drop the spaghetti into the boiling salted water and cook according to package instructions, about 6 to 9 minutes or until al dente, or tender but still firm to the bite. Drain well (Personally I like to leave the pasta in cold water for a min or so before I drain it.) Toss with 1 tablespoon of olive oil, and set aside.

- Heat the cream and cheese, add in whisked yolks when sauce is giving off steam. Stir quickly and remove from fire before it boiled (This is very important as we do not want the yolks to be over cook and create a "lumpy" sauce)

- Toss with the egg and cream mixture with cooked pasta, then add the cooked bacon and chopped parsley. Serve right away, with additional grated cheese if desired.

Aranzi World Caravan - The real thing

I was finally there!

Aren't those adorable!? I wanna bring them home!

Check out all the different characters.

After all the excitement died down, I was disappointed.
Why?

It was small and everything was over-priced.
The website mentioned there are over 5,000 items sold at the Caravan...
I don't think there were even 500.

Unless they counted different designs of the same product

But since I was here, I was thinking to myself I need to get something.
It's not common that a caravan like this is in Singapore.
So what should I get?

I can most probably fit only 5 pieces of tissue papers in one of those.

Aranzi World Caravan

I almost fainted (from too much excitement!) when walked past this poster at the station today.

It's FINALLY in Singapore!

OMG!!!! I am such a HUGE FAN of Aranzi Aronzo!
Everything from them is truly kawaii (cute in japanese).

The craft books by them are equally AWESOME and so easy to follow.

If you have no idea who or what I am talking about, please stop living under the stone and come out every once a while.

Since I do quite a bit of self-made gifts and with Christmas coming.... I think it's time.

Time for me to get some good quality alphabet stamps to make some gift tag.
Personally I preferred clear stamps over wooden ones as I can see where I'm stamping unlike with traditional wood-mount rubber stamps. No more guessing if the stamp is lining up properly! Since I am trying to be as earth friendly as possible wasting my craft supplies will be a BIG NO NO.

However wooden stamps do look absolutely adorable!

But me being practical and want something that fit within my budget (Yes clear stamp costs lesser!). As much as I loved to get my hands on those cuties. I know its going to be a total waste of $$$.

Another reason why clear stamps are a better choice for me is that clear stamps are are ideal for layering images or working with letters, because you can see exactly where you’re stamping.
You can mix and match the stamps and position them on a clear acrylic block.

A couple of months back from one of my favorite blogger Amanda Fuller I came to know Swap-Bot.

I had my very first swap and I LOVE IT!

By now you must be thinking: "What the hell are you talking about?"

What is Swap-bot?

I made these cute little tutus for my friend Corinne's wedding.

The tutus are made from different kind of tulle

The first is softer creating a princess-ish softness tutu
The second is thicker that makes the skirt looks playfully fluffier.

Jewellery Stand

I read it somewhere that someone use the tier stand as jewellery stand.
Awesome idea!
I decided to make a mini Jewellery Stand since I can't find one that's affordable and pretty.

I got some pretty plates from Diaso in 3 different sizes.

Mini bottles from home.
The color of the bottles didn't match the plates so I covered it with yarn.

So now what you need to do is stick them together.
Be careful when using the glue gun.

Glue the bottle to the back of the plate.
(Be sure it's right in the middle of the plate, you do not want your stand to topple)

Stick only the small and middle size plates.
After sticking them, leave it for a day and DO NOT turn over.

Apply the hot glue again to stack the plates together to create a 3 tier stand.

Leave it for another day.

Now you have a pretty jewellery stand

Finally I am able to spend some time setting up my crafty blog.

This blog will be dedicated to my love for all hand-made projects.

After taking a basic sewing course from Taftc, I am totally in love with sewing.
I got my 1st sewing machine 2 months later in Courts.
Singer 2259
It has helped me create so many beautiful pieces.

I got my 1st craft book after reading much good reviews about it.
It's called "One Yard of Wonder" (You can join them in Facebook)

Wonder indeed.
With over 80 semi-easy sewing project with just one yard of fabric.
Best of all, it comes with pattern designs.
It works best for beginner like me.
